The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) revolution can have far-reaching consequences on the social processes in the community, the spatial organisation and mobility. In this paper, some aspects of mobility change are described. Although difficult, it is necessary to outline a realistic picture of the future. This view is needed to process developments in the desired direction and to accommodate policymaking. In the paper, the authors focus on one specific image of the future: the concept of `modern small-scale development'. The paper is concluded by indicating the importance of a government well-handling these futuristic images. (A)
