Samenvatting

Freeway traffic data are typically collected by the deployment of inductive loop detectors. The accuracy of loop detector data is crucial for effective traffic management systems and traveler information systems. However, loop sensitivity level discrepancies between two single loops forming dual-loop detectors and unsuitable sensitivity levels on both single loops are two major causes of quality degradation in loop data. This paper presents an algorithm and its implementation for the identification and correction of loop sensitivity problems. The algorithm uses vehicle data extracted from loop event data to identify and correct dual-loop sensitivity level differences and configure sensitivities to suitable levels. Elimination of loop sensitivity problems will significantly enhance the reliability of loop traffic data for intelligent transportation systems.
