A clinical survey of 2119 drivers involved in accidents showed that 30% of these had suffered sudden indispositions at the wheel. 6% of the indispositions were epileptic and 20% vascular. These results indicate the need for a thorough medical examination at the time of issue or renewal of driving licences.
