Samenvatting

A statistical analysis relating commercial vehicle fatal involvements and out-of-service violations to the various levels of inspections that are conducted is developed in this paper. The empirical model is estimated using state level data. Based on these results, an analysis to optimize fatal involvement reductions by allocating the inspections among the various levels is presented. Finally, a parametric analysis to determine the impact of Intelligent Transportation Systems/Commercial Vehicle Operation user services on the fatal involvement reduction as a function of market penetration is conducted.
