Samenvatting

The study investigates the dynamic response and injury mechanisms of the human head in direct impact conditions, using a three-dimensional comprehensive finite element human head model developed to associate mechanical parameters with mechanisms of head injury due to direct impact. An explicit integration finite element technique was applied to the analysis. Model response was compared with test data in terms of impact force, head acceleration, and intracranial pressure. It is considered that the potential risk of skull fracture, focal coup-contrecoup brain injury, and Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI) can be studied by finite element modeling in simulating head impact.
