Samenvatting

The objective of this synthesis report was to examine the impact that information and communication (I/C) technologies are having on transporation agencies and to gather data to understand how agencies are dealing with these impacts. Four classes of technologies were examined: intelligent transportation systems, communication technology, software tools, and remote work arrangements. The synthesis was accomplished through a review of recent literature and a survey of representatives from state transportation agencies. Case studies in five state departments of transportation helped put the findings from the literature review and survey in context.
