Samenvatting
An empirical investigation of the long-run sensitivity of inter-city travel behaviour to petroleum shortages is made. It tests the sensitivity of both modal choice and total travel volume to increases in the prices of petroleum-based fuels and restrictions on highway speeds for the four basic inter-city modes: auto, air, rail and bus. Estimates are made of the operating costs per passenger-mile accounted for by petroleum-based fuels for a base period.
