Within the DACCORD project, an effort has been made to assess the impacts of traffic control tools. To this end, a variety of simulation studies were conducted (using state-of-the-art traffic simulation models and control algorithms) to evaluate the impacts of specific control tools installed at the DACCORD test sites. The expected impacts on overall travel time, travel distance, fuel consumption and environmental effects were estimated for each control tool. The simulation studies indicated substantial impacts, but could not be verified by empirical results within the project framework. Based on findings from the EVA project, a monetary appraisal was established for these benefits, so that an indicative cost-benefit analysis could be performed. (A*)
