Road structure plans are developed for the opening up of a coastal recreation area. Accessibility of the area, especially the beaches, should be guaranteed, but at the same time the number of car kilometres and the harmful impacts of car traffic should be reduced. The physical planning for this area starts from the principle of a lobate structure, which maintains more crowded and less crowded coastal zones. The opening up of the recreation area is coordinated with the principle by means of a structure by which roads are ending in a blind alley. The principles of a durable safe infrastructure are embedded, and traffic volumes for several alternative road net works are calculated. In comparison with the so-called autonomous development, most of the alternatives will produce more motor vehicle kilometres. However, by the concentration of traffic on the restricted number of the the new opening up system, other minor rural roads will have only modes traffic volumes. This favours the opportunities for alternative modes, for example recreational biking. Also the dispersion of fauna decreases.
