The report about the implementation of European compatible transport systems (ITS) in the transalpine area of Switzerland gives a comprehensive overview of the initial position and bases, as well as the activities undertaken until now and measures planned in the future (organizational aspects, technical coordination, legal and financing bases, cost/benefit relation) in the field of ITS in Switzerland. The following ITS systems and technics are planned or already on the way to be installed or used, namely RDS/TMC, digital road maps and GPS based navigation systems, intelligent traffic-monitoring, -guidance and -management systems, electronic fee collection (EFC) systems for heavy trucks within Switzerland and for the Alpine transit passage, DSRC technics, etc.
