Improvements in motorway traffic management technique.

This paper deals with the recent improvements in Motorway Traffic Management and shows some of the latest applications of Detection Technology and Pattern Recognition technique. The focus is set on Digital Networking and Processing of Video Signals, applied to Traffic Monitoring and Control. The deployment of Rule-Based Pattern Recognition in Motorway Traffic Surveillance and Automated Incident Detection, or A.I.D technique, is discussed indeed, from the point of view of the Operator Interface. A recent field-trial of Video Processing detectors is presented along with a relevant discussion of technology assessement. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
