Samenvatting

This paper addresses the problems encountered by visually or auditorally impaired users of public transportation. The prevalence of sensory disorders among transit users is reviewed. Some relevant facts about human orientation, mobility, and information processing are described, and recommendations are given for insuring access to the transit system by the sensory impaired user. Many design features aimed at the sensory-impaired user will result in improved access and service for all transit users.
