Samenvatting

Intermodal transport, especially rail/sea-links, offers opportunities to make goods transport more sustainable. Over the last years goods volumes transported on rail have increased, but there is a large environmental potential to be realized by shifting more volumes from truck to rail. This technical paper addresses how standard IT solutions with open interfaces canbe used to improve the competitiveness of the rail/sea offering by improving the operational efficiency of the multimodal handling and by improvingthe information flow between the involved parties. A case study on the Port of Trelleborg covers how they want to contribute to a more efficient transport corridor between Sweden and Germany using IT as a resource in their multimodal operation.
