Samenvatting

This chapter presents an intervention to increase helmet use in school-age cyclists. The first section describes the statistics on pedal cycle accidents in young people and the evidence that helmets prevent or reduce head injury, and reviews other interventions to increase helmet use. The second section presents the theoretical framework we used to develop the intervention, the Theory of Planned Behaviour. The third section reports the development and evaluation of the intervention. The final section discusses the results and implications for further research. (Author/publisher)
