Samenvatting

The aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of the incremental collapse phenomena to roads on sandy subgrade, to determine its cyclic bearing capacity using available finite element codes. Experimental results on sands subjected to cyclic loading showed that after a sufficiently large number of cycles either the sand will be stabilized to a safe state by asymtotically approaching a shakedown state or it will fail by incremental collapse.
