Samenvatting

Restraint systems are commonly designed without considering the influenceof muscle activity of the occupants. Accident scenarios are often preceded by pre-crash phases where muscle responses can be expected. This studypresents road tests (VDA lane change and sinusoidal test track) includingcomparison between the overall kinematics of the dummy and the human subject as well as EMG measurements. The test results show that dummies are not able to predict the response of human occupants during pre-crash phases. The EMG data for human subjects reveal muscle activation patterns that can be interpreted with respect to the acceleration of the car. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134311
