Samenvatting

The Dutch Ministry of Transport has recently undertaken a research project to explore the possibilities to stimulate modal transfer from road to water and rail transport. The primary objectives are to identify the factors that influence the decisions to switch modes and to assess the potentials in different market segments in bringing about the change. The results and the findings obtained from the in-depth interviews and the use of the stated preference method are presented. The information can be used to develop strategies to influence modal split.
