Samenvatting

Although customers have highly accepted DB's services with ICE high speed trains between cities and with tilting trains in rural areas - both supported by automatic train control systems with corresponding performance - there are still important requirements and challenges to which DB has to respond. Real time information processing in a network of stationary and mobile applications offers benefits. Advanced information technology is needed and has to enable DB in particular to introduce future-oriented railway traffic and train control systems. Research projects like DIBMOF (Diensteintegrierender Bahnmobilfunk - Services Integrating Mobile Radio for Railways) and ERTMS (European Railway Traffic Management System) create the basis. Standards support the aim for both open market and interoperability. A set of items has been established for applying future oriented information technology in a strategic framework.
