Samenvatting

This paper aims to highlight the initiatives put in place by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) arising from the road safety audit programme conducted on all eight of Singapore's expressways in 2000. The study has highlighted the most common "problems" which could be addressed by road designers. Most of the topics were related to the physical road environment, visibility and specific vehicle movements. As a result of these observations, LTA has proactively developed projects that will mitigate or improve on the current situation, on a nation-wide scale. The paper concludes with an outline on what road safety initiatives on the expressways are being considered or planned by LTA for the future.
