Samenvatting

Southwark Council is at the forefront of steering new initiatives in transport. An innovative access control system is currently being installed on the main access routes into the core shopping area of Peckham town centre. The scheme forms part of a package of measures which will help transform Peckham into a vibrant and viable town centre. As part of the scheme public transport accessibility and reliability will be improved and conditions for pedestrians and cyclists will be enhanced. Rising bollards will prevent unauthorised vehicles entering the main shopping area between the hours of 11am and 7pm. Drivers will be advised of the restrictions through a series of Variable Message Signs, whilst at the control points video-entryphones will facilitate communication with the system operators. The system will be continually monitored using CCTV cameras linked to a purpose buit control centre. (A)
