Samenvatting

In March 2000, the Province of Alberta's Minister of Infrastructure and the City of Edmonton, entered into an agreement for funding of capital transportation infrastructure. The funding was provided through a Fuel Sales Grant equivalent to $0.05 per litre of taxable gasoline and diesel fuel delivered to service stations in Edmonton. The grant was to be used to establish a "City Transportation Fund" for expenditures incurred on Capital Transportation Projects. Through this grant, the Province of Alberta has contributed to the development and enhancement of sustainable urban transportation projects and activities in the City of Edmonton. In addition, the grant has allowed the City to spend more capital on projects that may not have otherwise been financially feasible. The City of Edmonton recognises that the Province of Alberta's innovative form of funding will help to implement strategies to build a more efficient and environmentally friendly city. In return, the Province recognises the City's innovative use of the funding in supporting sustainable transportation initiatives. (Author/publisher)
