This paper was presented at the `Innovative Solutions for Material and Construction Issues' session. The Quebec Ministry of Transport adopted an innovative technology approach for tendering the rehabilitation of a section of Autoroute 40 in the municipality of Vaudreuil, Quebec. This 5.5 km stretch of highway is part of the autoroute system linking Montreal to Toronto, and is heavily travelled with 12,000 trucks and 58,000 automobiles per day. The tender was required to be submitted in two separate bid documents, one for the technical design and one for overall costs. A special committee was formed to evaluate the bid proposals. This paper describes the criteria used to evaluate the bids submitted and describes aspects of the winning proposal submitted by Demix construction. (A)
