This before study works out an design for an integral research into the relationship between accidents and traffic behaviour in the Netherlands. The core of the integral research to be carried out consists of the following three parts: (1) time-lapse video recordings in order to registrate collisions both during daylight and at night; (2) an extra sample of measurements and of observations of both behaviour and of events in order to explain the origin of accidents; and (3) the accident reconstruction of collisions which are recorded by the police. On the basis of the before study, at least two kinds of important junctions within built-up areas have been selected. These include: (i) busy, four-armed junctions with traffic signals; and (ii) busy, four-armed junctions with right-of-way signs.
