Samenvatting

The purpose of this paper is to describe the various ATT (Advanced Transport Telematics) technologies used for data exchange between mobile units and traffic management control systems. These include: a) satellite and radio communication systems; and b) automatic vehicle identification systems. The markets for these systems are defined, as are the expectations of the users in terms of both freight management and vehicle fleet management. The need to integrate the various technologies is discussed. The current approaches to integration are summarized.
