Samenvatting

Transportation in the major metropolitan centre of Auckland remains the number one issue on the agenda for many local, regional and Central Government agencies in New Zealand. Sustainable solutions to address both transportation and wider environmental needs are at the forefront of strategy as well as specific initiatives for the city's largest territorial local authority, the Auckland City Council. This paper looks at one of these initiatives - the Auckland Cycling and Walking Strategy - and outlines some of the considerations and progress in planning and implementation of this Strategy.
