Samenvatting

In January 2000, the DELTA consortium started work on a 30-month project to define, test and validate the specifications for a standardised interface allowing to integrate the DSRC communication link as standard equipment in the car. The project consists of key players from the industries involved: 3 car manufacturers (Fiat, Opel and Renault), supported by 2 automotive electronics suppliers (Bosch and Mannesmann) as well as 2 DSRC manufacturers (Alcatel and Q-Free) and 3 road operators (ASFA, Autostrade and Cofiroute). The project aims to bring the DSRC technology and the ITS applications that it enables to the mass market. It will also solve outstanding problems associated with the use of DSRC transponders installed behind metallic windscreens.
