Samenvatting

Network referencing is an enabling facility. Network referencing is not always synonymous with spatial referencing (i.e. knowing the spatial co-ordinates for given items), but is a key supporting tool used by any organisation operating or managing a transport network. This paper considers on-going work within the UK Highways Agency, its governmental and business partners to address issues enabling a common understanding of location across a range of applications, business functions and IT systems. Lessons learned and potential solutions may provide benefit to other roads administrations and improve information flows supporting the Informed Traveller and improved operation of the transport network.
