The article presents the target architecture pursued by the THERMIE-JUPITER project in Florence. First the background of the THERMIE programme and the overall JUPITER project is given. Therefore the JUPITER approach is described at a functional level, discussing the role and the interactions of each subsystem and including details about the ATT aspects. Finally, some considerations on the contribution of JUPITER and on the related role of the Local Authority in the evaluation and management of environmental situations are provided. (A)
