Samenvatting

The paper reviews some mobility problems that currently exist. Demand management tools are increasingly being used to manage mobility. However, such tools should be supported by technology which recognises that travel is a derived demand - it is activity led. For this reason there is a need for transaction understanding within transport and outside transport payment. This is even more the case as cities attempt to "join-up" their thinking to non-transport policy areas. The role of the smartcard is seen as an important integrative technology which manages such transactions. Centralising transaction information is seen as a fruitful way forward in support of mobility management initiatives: integrating information to achieve intelligent mobility.
