Samenvatting

Long queues and increased traffic demands at the north and south parking control plazas required the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (D/FW) to research innovative methods for improvement of traffic flow, improved methods for accepting parking fee payments, and reduced operating costs. D/FW, operating the single largest parking system in the world, turned to the toll industry and determined that the implementation and integration of an automatic vehicle identification system into the existing computerized parking control system would offer significant benefits and assist in resolving many of their traffic problems. The proximity of the Dallas North Tollway, with a successful AVI program (over 150,000 transponders in use), provided the nucleus for a customer base already knowledgeable in the benefits and use of an AVI system.
