Samenvatting

This experiment deals with high accident risk among young novice drivers. The overall purpose is to study the effects of educational improvements as a measure of the prevention of accidents. The hypothesis of the experiment is that accident risks among young boys and girls normally educated by private instructors, i.e. parents, will be reduced if complementary professional education and support are provided. To analyse the effect of this complementary professional driver education compared to private, 2000 young people, 17 years old, were distributed in two groups. The improvement included three parts, co-operation between driving school and parents by systematic support, "commentary driving" to improve scanning behaviour and special practice making the learner experience his own limitations in driving skill. The results based on self-reported accidents show that the hypothesis is rejected. If the data is divided into first and second year after licensing the experiment group was shown to have a lower risk during the second year, compared to the control group. (A)
