Samenvatting
This article concerns the development of automatic identification for transport units (containers; trailers; railway wagons). Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology enables automatic identification at terminals and transfer points. The Finnish Technical Research Centre has evaluated available technologies in laboratory conditions and field tests, and user needs were studied. However, a lack of standardisation was seen as a barrier to implementation throughout Europe, although a growing demand has been noted.
