Samenvatting

An Acoustic Dedicated Short-Range Communication (A-DSRC) device has been developed. This device is believed to have potential for use within several Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) applications, especially traffic signal priority for emergency and transit vehicles. The major features of A-DSRC which make it attractive for ITS application are: (1) it does not interfere with other RF transmissions; (2) there are no government licensing issues; (3) the microphones can be mounted easily on the roadside; (4) it supports silent priority requests for emergency vehicles; and (5) as part of a total system, it should have lower cost than RF.
