Samenvatting

The last decade has seen considerable developments in the technology available to transport planners. These developments enable large amounts of data to be collected quickly and accurately. They also provide the opportunity to analyse and synthesise this data in an efficient and systematic manner. Alongside these developments has been the introduction of computer assisted design procedures which enable planners to investigate the impacts of changes in the parking system. Parking system design and policy analysis can benefit greatly from these developments. This paper outlines some of the impacts of new technology. More specifically, it presents new methods for collecting data on parking demand, the availability of parking places and the `level of service' of parking systems. The impact of microcomputers on parking systems modelling is also described (A).
