Samenvatting

This report presents a survey of intermediate forms of urban public transport used throughout the developing world. The controversy surrounding intermediate public transport is discussed and the more important issues and problems are identified. Brief descriptions of some examples are also presented which illustrate how these transportation systems are organised and operated. The purpose of the report is to elucidate the significant role that intermediate public transport performs in the urban sector of developing countries. This provides the background to further research work being conducted by the overseas unit of the transport and road research laboratory into the efficiency of these various forms of transport.
