The intermediate resting position of accommodation and its implications for night driving.

With the newly developed laser optometer experimental evidence has been obtained supporting the intermediate testing position of accomodation. In addition, it has been demonstrated that there is a considerable intersubject variability in the magnitude of the resting position. This implies that those subjects who have a relatively near resting position, of the order of two diopters would be handicapped when driving an automobile at night. These individuals require additional negative correction.
