An international approach to lantern performance.

This paper presents a critical evaluation of the light distribution requirements laid down in the Lantern Specification B.S. 1788 published in 1964, and assesses the advantages to be gained by the British acceptance of the concept of road surface luminance adopted in the CIE recommendations.
