Samenvatting

A set of electronic tables, on five diskettes, indicating equivalent disease codes for the translation of ICD-9 to ICD-10 and vice-versa. The translator was prepared in response to several innovations in the Tenth Revision of ICD, including a conceptual shift in structure as well as changes in the 2- and 3-digit codes, that pose special problems for users trying to move between the two classifications. The translator should also help ensure the continuity of health situation assessments that used codes from the previous revision. The electronic conversion tables, which are accompanied by a user's guide, include all codes used in ICD-9 and ICD-10, and cover all possible bridges or equivalences between the two classifications. Five principal types of relations are included. Relation 1 is when both the ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes are unique. Relation 2 is when the ICD-10 code is unique, but the ICD-9 code is not. Relation 3 is when the ICD-9 code is unique, but the ICD-10 code is not. Relation 4 is when neither the ICD-9 code nor the ICD-10 code is unique. Relation 5 is when either the ICD-10 code did not exist in ICD-9, or the ICD-9 code was discontinued in ICD-10. The electronic tables are bidirectional, bilingual English and French, and extend to the full 4-character codes used in both classifications. The tables also allow translations between the basic tabulation list of ICD-9 and the new tabulation list of ICD-10. The translator is packaged in both ADOBE ACROBAT (TM) software, for use with MS WINDOWS (TM) or MS-DOS (TM), and the universally accessible ASCII format. (A)
