Samenvatting

This research examines the characteristics associated with HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) projects throughout the world. It provides a comparison of the similarities and differences between projects, the experience with different techniques and the advantages and disadvantages of alternative approaches. As automobile use increases in cities throughout the world, HOV facilities of all types will become increasingly important. Thus, sharing information on different techniques is critical. Planners and engineers in the United States and Canada can learn a good deal from European projects and transport professionals in Europe can benefit from the North American experience.
