Chile has an extensive network of toll highways, including four within the city of Santiago, with "interoperable" Free Flow Multi-lane Electronic Toll Collection. This paper focuses on these four free flow Urban Highways and how the interoperability between the four separate concessions has developed. Achieving interoperability for the toll collection in Santiago hasbeen a most interesting challenge and it offers useful experience for other toll collection schemes.
