Samenvatting
Activities in Finland have been concentrated on the following areas: (1) design and drafting of projects - there has been an increase in the content of the road data bank; (2) environmental studies which are used in the planning, financing and maintenance of roads; (3) the number of persons killed or injured in traffic accidents has remained constant throughout the 80's despite an increase in traffic. The role of bad weather conditions and road lighting has been investigated; (4) improvement of the geometric characteristics of existing roads to facilitate the flow of excessively large transport vehicles.
