Interurban roads and motorways. Report from Portugal.

Details are given of the New National Road Plan in Portugal and of the new classification of different types of road. Priority is being given to the construction of main roads which form part of the European road network. Economic and social benefits to be derived from the plan are outlined. Mathematical models are being used for traffic forecasting. Energy conservation is one of the criteria taken into account when planning highway projects.
