This report covers the main features of road building as carried out in the USSR, experience in applying the traffic conflicts technique for evaluating relative danger of road sections and an automated road design system being evolved at present. Described in this report are environmental preservation measures taken when building motorways in the Caucasus and in Lithuanian SSR.
