The intervening-opportunities model applied to residential land use in a uniform city.

It is shown that in many cities throughout the world, the logarithm of the population density decreases approximately linearly with distance from the city centre. With the simple intervening-opportunities model, towards the outskirts of the city the logarithm of the population density decreases approximately as the square of the distance.
