Introduction to Advanced Transport Telematics ATT, Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems IVHS and Road Transport Informatics RTI.

This chapter introduces the concept of Advanced Transport Telematics (ATT), and provides a review of the history of ATT systems. These include dynamic driver information systems, automatic toll debiting, and "automatic" driving aids. The current ATT programmes in Europe, Japan and the USA are summarised. The implementation of such systems is also described briefly.
