This text presents the concepts and some of the techniques used in highway transportation engineering. The text is organized into four parts. Part I is devoted to the presentation of traffic theories and parameters, a discussion of traffic measurements, and a description of the engineering approaches used in the control of traffic. Part II discusses geometric design of highways, intersections. Part III deals with driver licensing, vehicle equipment, driver education and enforcement activities, as well as with traffic signalization. Part IV is concerned with highway planning and with the administration of highway transportation engineering functions. The legal and financial bases are also discussed.
