Introduction of lower speed limits in the Adelaide Hills.

In January 2001 the Adelaide Hills Community Road Safety Group (AHCRSG) received a grant from the South Australian Government to undertake a speed awareness campaign "Towards Vision Zero - Speed Awareness in the Adelaide Hills". The project had the following objectives: 1. raising the community's awareness of the risks associated with speed; and 2. the voluntary reduction in travelling speeds on a selected few roads with reported speeding problems. In July 2001, the Minister for Transport announced that a comprehensive review of speed limits would be undertaken throughout the Adelaide Hills region. The review was initiated partly in response to the community's concerns, and partly to address the problem of sign posting a 100 km/h speed limit on narrow winding hills roads. Because of the obvious relationship between the two projects, a partnership was formed involving Transport SA, AHCRSG, local government, and the police, to oversee the implementation of lower speed limits throughout the Adelaide Hills.
