Samenvatting

The reasons that led to the introduction of unleaded petrol are examined and the implications for those involved are outlined. Unleaded petrol will grow in demand as new dedicated unleaded vehicles replace the existing vehicles. The production of unleaded petrol requires an increase in hydrocarbon quality, the size and cost of which will vary from refinery to refinery and will be incurred over a number of years. The sensitivity of the catalyst emission control system to trace amounts of lead is such that additional segregation procedures are required throughout the distribution system.
