Samenvatting

Deliverable F.1 aims to provide a state-of-the-art on the current training methods and tools for ITS use and attempt a benchmarking of these systems (such as ADAS and IVIS) in relation to driving task models, in order to evaluate and discuss the need of training for the use of ITS. This deliverable uses background knowledge and expertise from various experts coming from the fields of: · driver training and instruction; · the elderly and their cognitive abilities; · professional drivers; · traffic psychology; · disabled drivers; · telematics and driving. From the literature on general driver models, driving culture, and the functionality of several ADAS application, the potential of driver training to enhance the safety and efficient application of these systems for "standard drivers" is assessed. Furthermore, the specific training needs of specific target groups are discussed. These target groups have different training needs because of loss of functions (the elderly and the disabled drivers), have particular driving tasks (professional drivers) or they belong in a high-risk group (novice drivers).
