Drivers license and car ownership in the big cities are lower than the average in the Netherlands. Research is done to what extend this lower level is due to demographic factors and to what extend to "urban" factors. It was found that the lower level of car ownership in the four big cities can be explained about 1 /3 by demographic factors and about 2 /3 by urban factors. As a result of these urban factors the forecasting of car ownership in 2010 can be reduced with the number of 300. 000 cars.
